If you have recently started working out, it can take a while before you establish a comfortable workout regime that’s tailored to your own needs.

With so many fitness tips and advice readily available, it can be tricky to get to grips with what’s what – especially when there is so much advice that contradicts something else you may have read.

It’s true that there are a lot of myths surrounding exercise. So to get to the bottom of things, here are some of those myths debunked:

You need a long workout

You may have heard that your workout needs to be long in order for you to see any results. While it is recommended that you get 30 minutes of exercise each day, there will be days where you can’t always do this.

Exercising for less than 30 minutes doesn’t mean that your workout will be ineffective, though. Your body starts burning fat as soon as you begin exercising, so a shorter, more intense workout is better than no exercise at all.

It’s too late to get in shape

If you’ve gone for years without properly exercising, there’s no such thing as “too late to get in shape”. While you shouldn’t throw your body into an intense workout, you can ease it into exercise by starting off gently.

Walking to the shops for ten minutes each day is a good place to start. You can then build this up into a 15 or 20-minute jog. Increase the time and intensity of the exercise each day and your body will learn to love it.

You need a gym membership to see results

Although many people have gym memberships, that doesn’t mean you need one too.

Being a member of a gym can be pricey and it’s understandable if you don’t want to fork out for one. There are many other ways to keep fit without having to pay a fee, though.

Running in a scenic park or performing exercises in the comfort of your home with the help of an online tutorial are both great examples – and ones that will certainly help to keep you in shape.

Intense exercise every day is better

You may have heard that you need to perform vigorous exercise every day, or else your results will start to wear off. This is far from true, though.

Exercising intensely every day will cause you to burn out, making it difficult to maintain a solid routine. What’s more, you need to give your muscles chance to recover or else you could cause yourself an injury.

Make sure you include rest days in your workout schedule. So long as you maintain a healthy diet, you’ll see results in next to no time.
